Climate Action Leeds is an ambitious five-year programme funded by The National Lottery Climate Action Fund.

Climate Action Leeds provides a platform for people, organisations and communities to come together to take action on climate change, in Leeds and beyond. The programme is delivered by five partner organisations, and many more contributing organisations.

CAL’s collective purpose is to help shape a Leeds which is zero carbon, nature friendly and socially just by the 2030s.

Our approach is focused on mobilising communities, campaign groups and sectors to plan and act together. Over 40 groups in Leeds contributed to planning the project, and it is supported by many more.

We started out in 2020, so we are in year 3 of the programme

It’s true that large systemic changes are needed to make an impact significant enough to get Leeds to carbon zero by the 2030s, but there is still lots you can do as as an individual, and in your local area to take meaningful action.

Every little action counts, but coming together to plan and act on climate justice in a joined up way is much more effective.

The key is to ‘think big, act small and start now’.

The five delivery partners are:

Voluntary Action Leeds, Our Future Leeds/Leeds Love It Share It, Together for Peace, Leeds TIDAL, CAG Consultants

Other groups involved in the consolation & delivery include: Buy Nowt Leeds, Carbon Conversations Leeds, Feed Leeds, Extinction Rebellion Leeds, GALBA Airport Action, Friends of the Earth Leeds, Frack Free Leeds, Leeds Community Homes, Leeds Community Foundation, Groundwork, Leeds Climate Commission, Leeds Racial Justice, Hack Space Leeds, Lilac Co-housing, Makertopia, LS14 Trust, Leeds Zest, Space2 Leeds, Leeds Permaculture Network, Leeds Youth Strike For Climate, Leeds community Energy, Platform, Zero Carbon Waste, Zero Carbon Yorkshire.

There are also 8 community hubs. The hubs may operate from a local building such as a community venue or shop front. They might be ‘pop up’ style and be at different locations on different days, or they might be online ‘virtual’ hubs.

They will be run by people living and/or working in the neighbourhood, who choose their own focus and agenda.

They will be supported by a part-time hub worker employed locally, to create a broad range of actions and changes across different scales, sectors, and types of activities. More info about the hubs on CAL website here.
